The Stretch

Way back when, I danced. I danced a lot. Ballet, tap, and jazz. I was in The Studio three days a week.

The photo is from one of our dance shows, published in the Adams, Cheshire, Savoy Packet. I was Jack Be Nimble jumping over little girls dressed as candles.

The poem is about the the routine that started every class. The Stretch. The song? Nights in White Satin by The Moody Blues.

A deep breath let out slowly
I point my toes
Body twists to the floor

Ribbons of music
Uncurl my spine
Weave into my thoughts

I flow with the song
Dissolved in the movement
The truth is the dance

Those first notes play
My body still knows
The steps and the freedom

Music fades with a gong.

Your turn! What do you think?
